Steve Brown, President and CEO of Stratego Partners, Inc., has been delivering successful profit improvement and cost-savings strategies to clients since he founded the consultancy in 2002.
A self-proclaimed “Treasure Hunter,” Steve brings his unique blend of strategy, passion, and business savvy to clients across a wide range of industries including the manufacturing, distribution, technology and professional services sectors. Companies who engage Stratego Partners leverage Steve’s intellectual capital, along with his knowledge of cost markets, expertise in management consulting, and tool chest full of well-tested business techniques.
Prior to founding Stratego Partners, Steve served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at four privately owned companies in the Chicago area.
In 2000 and 2001, Steve was Chief Financial Officer at GroupWorks, LLC, a startup Internet-enabled group insurance business. From 1990 through early 2000, Steve was Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President at Rescar Incorporated, the largest independent provider of railcar repair and maintenance services in the United States with 2,500 employees and operations in 26 states. During his decade at Rescar, the company tripled in revenue, and Steve was responsible for millions of dollars of cost savings and profit improvement initiatives, including the negotiation and due diligence related to multiple railcar facility acquisitions.
Prior to Rescar, Steve was the Chief Financial Officer at Real Estate Research Corporation, and the Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer at Datamension Corporation.
Steve’s 30-year career is distinguished by his passion for delivering strategic and tactical results. He has startup experience and has worked in entrepreneurial, professional, technology and blue collar environments.
Steve earned his MBA from the University of Chicago (1977), his BA from The Johns Hopkins University (1975), and he is a member of the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society. He has been the Johns Hopkins Chicago Alumni Association President for more than 20 years, and is Chairman of the CFO Roundtable for the Illinois Technology Association.
Steve resides in Deerfield, Illinois with his wife Deborah, son and dog.

Mary Rose Birch has been a partner at Stratego Partners since 2004, delivering successful cost savings and profit improvement strategies and exceptional value to a number of Stratego clients.
Prior to Stratego, Mary Rose held senior financial positions in a variety of public and private companies including Sara Lee Corporation, Baxter, Inc. And Beatrice Corporation.
Mary Rose’s has both operational and financial expertise In areas such as tax strategy, quality initiatives, merger and acquisition analysis, purchasing strategy and manufacturing cost and process efficiencies. During her career, Mary Rose has led Initiatives that have delivered tens of millions of dollars of operationally efficiencies for her clients.
Mary Rose earned her MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, her BS in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is a member of the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society.
Mary Rose is actively involved in a variety of community Initiatives including being a Board Member for the Girl Scouts of America.
